He was the freshman class coordinator, active in his fraternityand the first concerts coordinator for the campus and organized the first ever visit of the San Francisco Warriors to Sacramento as a benefit for his fraternity. His first job was as a national bank examiner for the federal government. After one year, he left that position and started as an entry assistant budget analyst for the University of California, Berkeley in September, 1966. In 1971 he received his master’s degree from the School of Public Policy while working full time and became Deputy Director of Financial Aid. He also oversaw the budget process for the Vice Chancellor of Administration.
