Founder/Executive Director
In July 1994, Jeanie founded A Home Away From Homelessness in partnership with the National Park Service as a respite for homeless children living in shelters. Since that time, the organization has expended to include new programs that address the unique and compelling needs of homeless youth. Each year, in both Marin and San Francisco, Home Away serves more then 450 homeless and formerly
homeless and 200 families through five complimentary programs – The Beach House, The School House, The Youth Leadership Program, The Mentor Program, and The Educational Advocacy Program. Jeanie has over 25 years’ experience working with homeless and formerly homeless children in the San Francisco Bay Area. She established a staffed program in a variety of setting: homeless shelters, community-based centers and event tents after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. She has served on the Major’s Advisory Council on Childcare and the Mayor’s Citizen Committee to prioritize federal grant money for childcare.
