In July 1994, founder Jeanie Kortum created A Home Away From Homelessness in partnership with the National Park Service as a respite for homeless children living in shelters. Each year in Marin, San Francisco, and Oakland, Home Away serves more than 250 homeless and formerly homeless children and their families through 3 complimentary programs – The Beach House, The School House and The Youth Leadership Program.
Home Away’s Staff and Board of Directors bring a diversity of experiences and backgrounds to the organization – we are educators, artists, social justice advocates and entrepreneurs. We collaborate to make our programs possible, keep them thriving, and support and grow the Home Away family.
