At A Home Away from Homelessness we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to experience safe and supportive spaces that respect and foster his or her strengths, creativity and abilities. By joining with homeless and formerly homeless families, we help build confidence, skills and community through educational, social and recreational opportunities.
Although homeless families make up a high percentage of those without stable housing situations, they are often the least visible members of this population. Homeless youth are not only runaways but are also the 2,200+ kids currently enrolled in the San Francisco public schools classified as homeless. Many of these youth live with family members but still must sleep in shelters, cars, SROs or bed-hop from relative to relative.
