"...an impulse of the heart"
A Home Away From Homelessness is an idea that started as an "impulse of the heart." The impulse grew into a dynamic, non-profit organization that nurtures and supports the needs of homeless and formerly homeless children and families in San Francisco and Marin.

These needs are fulfilled by the School House and Youth Leaders Program, the Beach House Program and the Mentoring Program (the first of its kind in California).

Located in Fort Mason and Marin Headlands areas— four "homes" provide a physical, emotional and spiritual respite for vulnerable children and youth.

Our success is marked by our Founder and President, Jeanie Kortum. Jeanie received a Bay Area "Points of Light" honor in 2001 and was a recipient of a 2006 Silver SPUR Award from the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association.
